Choosing a Quran teacher isn't like choosing any other teacher — it touches a part of how you raise your children and shape their values, and that's why it deserves time and thought before deciding.

With the spread of online education, you now have many options in front of you, and this abundance of choice can itself become a source of confusion. So how do you tell one teacher apart from another?

The first thing to look at is the ijazah and chain of transmission (sanad). Not everyone who has memorized the Quran is capable of teaching it correctly, and a documented ijazah ensures the teacher studied under certified sheikhs.

Second, how the teacher deals with the student — especially if the student is a child. A good teacher doesn't just correct mistakes; they encourage and stay patient, turning the session into an experience the student loves rather than a burden they try to escape.

Third, clarity of curriculum and goal. Is the aim to improve recitation? Memorization? Tajweed? A good teacher makes clear from the start what you'll gain by the end of each stage.

Fourth, follow-up and consistency. One session a week without follow-up doesn't equal two sessions with real tracking of the student's performance in between.

Choosing the right teacher may take time, but it's an investment well worth it — because its impact stays with your child for their entire life.
